Book Review: The Kite Runner (Riverhead Books, 2003) written by Khaled Hosseini is a classical historical fiction that tells a story about the relationship between a father and a son, two friends who are just like brothers which is set against a backdrop of intense events, from the fall of Afghanistan’s monarchy through the Soviet military intervention, the migration of Afghani people who were refugees to Pakistan and the United States and the rise of the Taliban reign. The Kite Runner is written in the first-person point of view. The protagonist and the narrator of this novel is Amir. This book made me feel every emotion that one can feel. While reading this book, I was happy, sad, afraid, tensed and shocked. The plot, turning points of this novel made me keep on turning pages. Everything in this novel is described so well that while reading you can easily imagine everything. Tears roll down easily while reading this book so, don’t blame me for crying while reading this book; I have already told you before. So, at the end of this book, everything finishes so happily which will give you satisfaction.

The best book

This book is a novel, narrated from Amir's perspective. Amir is the son of a wealthy businessman in Kabul and he lives in a house full of men. The story's core is how Amir deals with the guilt of an act he did. But that's not the only point of the story. The story is rich, with a beautiful description of Kabul and Aghan culture and takes place across three countries. I personally enjoyed it, and I think most teenagers and even adults will enjoy too.

বুক রিভিউ The Kite Runner: Khaled Hosseini আমির ও হাসান-দুই বন্ধু।জন্ম ও বেড়ে ওঠা একই সাথে,আফগানিস্তানে।আমির বড়লোক বাবার ছেলে,হাসান তাদের বাড়িতে আশ্রিত কাজের লোক আলীর ছেলে।আমির আফগানিস্তানের ক্ষমতাশালী পশতুন গোত্রের অন্যদিকে হাসান সংখ্যালঘু হাজারা গোত্রের।তবুও তাদের মধ্যে গভীর বন্ধুত্ব।হাসান আমিরের প্রতি নিবেদিতপ্রাণ।আমিরকে ভালোবাসার মধ্যেই সে যেন সব সুখ খুঁজে পায়।আমির কোনো বিপদে পড়লে হাসান তাকে বাঁচাতে এগিয়ে আসে সাহসিকতার সাথে।পাড়ার দুষ্টু ছেলের দল ওদের পথরোধ করলে হাসানই হয় ত্রাণকর্তা। অন্যদিকে,আমির মনের দিক থেকে ভালো হলেও ভীরু প্রকৃতির। হাসানের সাহসিকতায় সে মুগ্ধ হয়ে যায়,মনে মনে চায় হাসানের মত মানুষ হতে।তার প্রতি হাসানের আনুগত্য তাকে অপরাধবোধে ভোগায় প্রতিনিয়ত। আমিরের বাবা অনুকরণীয় ব্যক্তিত্বসম্পন্ন একজন অভিজাত পুরুষ।তাঁর চারিত্রিক বৈশিষ্ট্য ও সামাজিক বিভিন্ন কর্মকান্ডের কারণে আত্মীয়স্বজন,বন্ধুবান্ধব ও প্রতিবেশিদের মধ্যে তিনি ব্যাপক জনপ্রিয়।তাঁর সাহসিকতা কিংবদন্তীতুল্য। এরকম বাবার ছেলে হিসেবে আমির বড়ই বেমানান।তাই সে বরাবরই হীনম্মন্যতায় ভোগে।তাঁর বাবাও আমিরের স্বভাবজাত বৈশিষ্ট্যে খুব একটা খুশি ছিলেন না।বারবার চেষ্টা করেছেন আমিরের মধ্যে পরিবর্তন আনতে। ছোট্ট আমিরের মধ্যে যে গুণগুলো তার বাবা খুঁজতেন,তার সবগুলোই খুঁজে পেতেন হাসানের মধ্যে।হাসানের প্রতি তার বাবার মুগ্ধতা আমিরকে অনিরাপত্তার অনুভূতি এনে দেয়।মা হারানো ছেলে বলেই হয়তো বাবাকে আঁকড়ে ধরতে চাইতো সর্বস্ব দিয়ে। ঘটনাচক্রে হাসান ও তার বাবাকে তাদের বাড়ি থেকে বের করে দিতে সফল হয় আমির। কিন্তু পরবর্তীতে এই অপরাধবোধ তাকে ভুগিয়েছে অনেক।কারণ,সে-ও হাসানকে খুব ভালোবাসত। আফগানিস্তানে তখন সোভিয়েত সৈনিকদের প্রবেশ ঘটেছে।সব ছেড়ে আমির ও তার বাবাকে পাড়ি জমাতে হয় আমেরিকায়।বাবা ছেলের মধ্যে দূরত্ব অনেকাংশেই কমে যায় আমেরিকার দিনগুলোতে।আমির এক সময় লেখক হয়ে ওঠে।তার সংসার হয়।এভাবেই দিন যাচ্ছিলো। কিন্তু হঠাৎ একদিন এক বন্ধু রহিমের কাছ থেকে ফোনে হাসানের খবর পেয়ে আমিরের জীবন হঠাৎ করেই বদলে যায়।পরিণতির কথা না ভেবেই তৎকালীন তালেবান অধ্যুষিত আফগানিস্তানে ফিরে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় আমির। কী কারণে হঠাৎ এমন স্বভাববিরুদ্ধ আচরণ করলো আমির? এটা কি সাহসিকতা,যেটা জন্ম নিয়েছে তীব্র অপরাধবোধ থেকে? নাকি আবার নিজেকে ভালো হওয়ার একটা সুযোগ দেওয়ার চেষ্টা?জানতে হলে আপনাকে পড়তে হবে পুরো উপন্যাসটুকু। কথা দিচ্ছি,আমির আর হাসানের মধ্যে নিজের শৈশবের কোনো না কোনো স্মৃতির মিল খুঁজে পেয়ে নিজের অজান্তেই খুশি হয়ে যাবেন।আর তখনই বুঝবেন,আপনি খালেদ হোসেইনির লেখার পরম ভক্ত হতে চলেছেন।

#Rokomari_Book_Club_Review_Competition Book name: The Kite Runner Author: Khaled Hosseini Published in: 2003 I first got my hands on the book "The Kite Runner" back when I was a university admission seeker in 2018 but due to my poor acquaintance with the novel category English, I failed to transfer most of the words I read in hardship meaningfully to the less developed brain of mine. So the result is I dumped(or the book itself dumped me!) the book before reaching to page 10. Recently in light of Covid-19 when everything potentially can be bad literally happened to our lives, one thing did and have been actually flourished. That is the habit of reading books. Lockdown was like the heaven for introverts and extensive readers and so it was for me! I read a lot and cut cross the path of kite runner again and this time I have finished it with loads of tickling for thoughts which lead me to write a review eventually but not a spoiler one, of course. Y'all remember how Covid-19 started like an earthquake, without any previous engagements. We were all living on our own naturally and suddenly everything got torn apart. This "The Kite Runner" book will give you the exact same experience. Like you are in a beach, enjoying the holiday, building statues out of wet sand, then suddenly a big wave advanced and was all washed up, nothing left. You had to build the statue again. In the book itself the main character Amir faced this same equal event with more earthly problems in shape of reality. Book starts with Amir living a peaceful life in the heart of Kabul, Afghanistan with his father while his mother was absent as she died giving birth to Amir. In their premise, Amir and his father is accompanied by their servant and his son. In that establishment, Amir's life advances with events are occurring circling to him. In Amir's perspective, the storyline was having developments until another force gigantically took over Amir's way of life and changed the whole scene, that thing was war. Yeah, both mid cold war era and post cold war era Afghan literature's prime subject of choice! But it wasn't all that in the past if you closely read the book and I got surprised too discovering all the misconceptions I had about Afghans. They were not always war-Taliban-terrorist country, they had the biggest kite competition probably in the world of that time I am talking about you will get the clue when reading! They were an emerging economy. But look at them now or 10-15 years ago that was the worst. So I can ensure that you will learn a lot about history, cold war history, why the hell Russians attacked Afghanistan and how the terrorism of today's world really started along with how a boy with guilt, full of fear stood for himself and others when situation got dire. How a scared skinny boy became a man and I am talking about the main character Amir here. In his first novel, the author Khaled Hosseini did an amazing job depicting a literature so entertaing, so easy to find meaning and most prominently discussed some complicated issues with vivid decoration that whenever a reader picks up the book for reading a bit, he can't put it down until finished. This much adventurous it gets after pages by pages. The more I elaborate on the writing itself here, the less I can actually cover. So hop in! Happy reading.

বইয়ের লেখক খালেদ হুসেইনী পেশায় একজন চিকিৎসক। বইটির প্রেক্ষাপট জুড়ে আছে আফগানিস্তানের কাবুল। আফগানিস্তানে শীতকালে স্থানীয়ভাবে এক প্রতিযোগিতার আয়োজন করা হয়, ঘুড়ি উড়ানোর প্রতিযোগিতা। একে অন্যের ঘুড়ি কাটাই হলো খেলার মূল লক্ষ্য। এভাবে একে অন্যের ঘুড়ি কেটে যার ঘুড়ি শেষ পর্যন্ত থাকত, নিয়ম অনুসারে সে বিজয়ী হতো। যারা কাটা ঘুড়ি সংগ্রহ করত, তাদের আলাদা নাম ছিল। তাদের বলা হতো কাইট রানার। কাবুলের অভিজাত ওয়াজির আকবর খান এলাকায় বাস করা কাবুলের ধনী ব্যবসায়ীর মা-হারা একমাত্র ছেলে আমির, তাদের ভৃত্য আলির ছেলে হাজারা সম্প্রদায়ের হাসান, আমিরের 'বাবা' আঘা সাহেব, তার বন্ধু রহিম খান এ উপন্যাসের কয়েকটি প্রধান চরিত্র। হাসানের বাবা আলি বহুকাল ধরে আঘা সাহেবদের বাড়িতে ভৃত্য হিসেবে বসবাস করতেন। সেই সূত্রে হাসান আমিরদের বাসাতেই থাকত। সে ছিল আমিরের সার্বক্ষণিক সঙ্গী। তাদের মধ্যে ছিল প্রগাঢ় বন্ধুত্ব। এছাড়া আরও অনেক চরিত্র আছে যেমন: আসেফ, সুরাইয়া ইত্যাদি।১৯৭৫ সালের এক শীতের ঘটনা।আমির সেবার ঘুড়ি উড়ানো প্রতিযোগিতায় জিততে প্রবলভাবে আগ্রহী ও দৃঢ়প্রতিজ্ঞ ছিল। তার বিশ্বস্ত বন্ধু হাসানও তাকে সাহায্য করার জন্য তৈরি। উত্তেজনাপূর্ণ প্রতিযোগিতা শেষে আমির প্রথম হয়। সে সময়ের রীতি অনুযায়ী, বিজয়ী ঘুড়িটিকে কুড়িয়ে এনে স্মারক হিসেবে বসার ঘরে সাজিয়ে রাখা হত। বিজয়ী নীল ঘুড়িটিকে কুড়িয়ে আনার সময় সেই শেষ বিকেলে তাদের জীবনে ঘটে এমন এক অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিত ঘটনা, যা ছিল তাদের ধারণারও বাইরে।তাজা আনন্দের রেশটুকু কেটে যাওয়ার আগেই ঘটে যাওয়া সেই দুঃখজনক ঘটনা আমিরের জীবন ওলট-পালট করে দেয়, আমির আর হাসানের সম্পর্কে চিড় ধড়ায়। আমির আর হাসানের সাথে আগের মতো মিশতে পারে না। হাসানও বুঝতে পারে না, কী তার দোষ, কেন আমির তাকে এড়িয়ে চলে, তার কী করা উচিত। সেই শেষ বিকেলের ঘটনা আমির আর হাসানের মধ্যকার সম্পর্কে ছেদ ঘটায় চিরদিনের মতো।এরপর এক সময় যুদ্ধ প্রবেশ করে আফগানিস্তানে। নিয়তির ফেরে ও রাজনীতির নির্মম পরিহাসে আমিররা যুধবিধ্বস্ত কাবুল ছেড়ে পাড়ি জমায় আমেরিকায়। সেখানে আঘা সাহেব চাকরি নেন এক পেট্রোল পাম্পে। যদিও আমেরিকার নতুন জীবনের সাথে খাপ খাইয়ে নিতে পারেননি, তবুও সেখানে ধীরে ধীরে তাদের জীবনে অনেকটাই স্বাভাবিকতা ফিরে আসে।কিন্তু একদিন তার বাবার বন্ধু রহিম খানের ফোন তাকে আবার অস্থির করে তোলে। সুপ্ত সেই অস্বস্তিগুলো লাভার মতো ছড়িয়ে পড়তে থাকে, তাকে প্রতিনিয়ত গ্রাস করে নিতে থাকে। সেই শেষ বিকেলের অনভিপ্রেত ঘটনা তাকে দুঃস্বপ্নের মত ক্রমশ তাড়া করে ফেরে। যদিও বা সেটাকে সে পুরোপুরি চেপে রাখতে চেয়েছিল, হৃদয়ের গহীনে সমাহিত করতে চেয়েছিল, কিন্তু পারেনি। সেই অস্বস্তিকর শেকল থেকে মুক্ত হতে চায় সে। যার জন্য সে ছুটে যায় আফগানিস্তানে, মুক্তি পাওয়ার জন্য। কোন দুঃসহ স্মৃতি সে বয়ে বেড়িয়েছিল? নতুন কী এমন নগ্ন সত্য উন্মোচিত হয়েছিল তার সামনে? আমির কি আদৌ মুক্তি পেয়েছিল? এই রিভিউটি পড়ে কেউ যদি বইটি পড়তে শুরু করেন, তবে বইটি শেষ করার পর হতবিহ্বল হওয়ার প্রস্তুতিও নিয়ে রাখবেন, তা না হলে আপনার মানসিক সমস্যা হতে পারে কিন্তু!
