The monster in Conor's backyard- it told him three stories in three sessions.And wanted a fourth story from Conor when he was done. I thought the monster would tell stories that'd make Conor accept his predicament and his mother's sickness, I thought the truth would be some kind of teaching about life and death that's supposed to be deep and meaningful.But I was ...wrong. Conor's truth surprised me because it had no pretension, the rawness of the it hitting my like a bulldozer.This book made me feel things I never, ever want to feel as long as I live.Conor didn't want to acknowledge his truth,he kept denying it and it burdened his heart.When he was finally forced to confess his truth at the end -it was so painful,so suffocating, it felt like my heart was squeezed tightly by it. I liked all the characters even the bully character Harry.I'd actually say Harry is the one that most intrigued me because it felt like there were more to his bullying of Conor than just being mean. This is an illness story done right.Though I felt it lacked depth at times but for this story, it works just fine.
