Dear Readers, this would be my second book in English-a compilation and collection of series of my selected articles-mainly discussing Geo-strategic scenario of the region and how it effects interstate relation within South Asia (SA).
South Asia as an entity has seen conflicts of many manifestations. Some of these are ongoing affecting interstate relation though in to-day's concept of global economy there are opportunities to take. Though in that economical ambit relations have improved since last decade but geo-strategic competition remains unabated. Therefore, one needs to view the articles in that prism.
Howerver, while discussing these issues one cannot isolate the region from overall global strategic atmosphere, particularly the Middle East and its ever changing strategic atmosphere. What happens in our neighbouring region has become very much our concern.
The geo-strategic reality is that the Middle East still remains the fulcrum of world's geo-political arena. Part of it is under occupation and ridden with nationalistic struggle. A Judeo-Christian revivalism is transcending acrose ME dragging the entire so-called Islamic world into the whirlpool. Caused extra-ordinary rise Islamic revivalsim launching so called defensive Jihad, termed as Islamic terrorism. In the realm of the 'Clash of the Civilisation' the Crusade is countered by Jihad. Close to Middle East is the Central Asian high-ground where century old 'great game' is unfolding. Since the World War I fossil fuel still remains to be the strategic asset for the quest. Added with it is, though less important, natural gas, and the power projection is all about to control the resources and establish economic control. The eality is there is only one super power and remains sceptical of the growth of counter balance particularly in Indian Ocean and Asia-pacific region. This is the prevailing global geo-strategic environment that we need to keep in mind if one has to grapple with regional geo-strategic climate that affects the inter-state relation particularly in SA we are concerned with.
In South Asia (SA) the region that we are directly concerned with the rapid geo-strategic climatic change has to be viewed in right perspective especially for weak and small countries of the region. SA balance of power that was effected since Sion Indian war in 1962, tilted completely towards the biggest country i.e. India after the emergence of Bangladesh in 1971.
India dominated the scene with the nuclear explosion in 1974.
Indian explosion put the two rivals ie. Pakistan in collusion path and unholy nuclear race started and continued unabated. The nuclear race culminated in 1998 both regional power became sixth and seventh declared nuclear power. Point ot note that of seven proven nuclear power three are Asian countries neighbouring each other.
The rapidly changing global geo-strategic in general and SA in particular has effected Bangladesh's geo-strategic and geo-political stance in three folds. One Bangladesh being the third largest Muslim country in the world and second largest in the region attaches paramount importance in to-day's international as well regional context. Two: being located within the security parameter of SA's most powerful country ie. India. Thired, being within the proximity of Asia's largest power considered to be rival of US and India i.e. China. These are the geo-strategic reality and dynamics of the environment that Bangladesh is faced with. The environment thus poses challenges to Bangladesh's national security, economci development, and military growth.
My articles compiled in this book are the reflection ongoing tangle based on the geo-strategic reality of the region and intra-state relations. I have however, included Afghanistan and Myanmar in South Asian Tangle. Afghanistan has already been accepted as SAARC (South Asian Association of Regional Co-operation) member.
Dear readers, I have tried to include relevant articles keeping in view my thoughts on the issue yet it may look incomplete. I acknowledge the shortcoming yet I believe the book would provide bird's eye view of 'status of terrorism and power of non state actor in SA to sow the seeds of discord among the nations. I hope that this compilation would serve that purpose.
